Patrick Seale's article is brilliant, but does not take into account that Israel's nuclear weapons may be the cause of Arab reluctance to resist Israel aggression - such as the recent attack on Syria. Also, there is the massive US nuclear arsenal that can be used to intimidate Arab states. With Bush lowering the nuclear barrier and changing the nuclear rules of engagement to allow him to pre-emptively use nuclear weapons, the US is preparing for the possibility of using them, or threatening to use them, to impose US-Israeli plans to reorder the Middle East. Already the US and UK threatened to use nuclear weapons if they encountered WMD resistance to their illegal and unjustified attack on Iraq. If the US launches a new war against Syria or Iran as is threatened, they may place US forces in a an impossible situation, where the US will use nuclear weapons to avoid defeat. |

...The new imperialists are paying a heavy price for their arrogant overreach. Iraq is proving the graveyard of the US army, and also the graveyard of US-Arab relations. Israel, in turn, has been brutalised by its occupation, turning it into a racist, quasi-fascist state, in the grip of religious fanatics. But the problems which the oppressors have brought upon themselves offer little consolation to their Arab victims. |

Given Iran's defences (below), and that US forces are already over extended in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, it follows that the US may find an excuse to use nuclear weapons if it decides, or Israel decides, to go to war against Iran. The US may believe that the pre-emptive use of nuclear weapons will immediately change the situation beyond the capacity of Iran to defend itself and give the US a quick victory. By demonising Iran, and perhaps blaming it for some new terrorist incident, which they can also use as an excuse to suppress US dissent, it will attempt to get the acceptance of the US population and the rest of the world for this first use of nuclear weapons since the bombing of Japan in 1945. |

Marlow Cook is a conservative republican
whose article follows. He was a retired judge and US Kentucky Senator.
He said he is "frightened to death of George Bush. I fear a secret
government .. . Bush "has no moral character at all"
Marlow says Bush is "a dangerous leader who flouts the truth, takes the country into an undeclared war and then adds a war on terrorism to it without debate by the Congress...we have a duty to rid ourselves of those who are taking our country on a perilous ride in the wrong direction." |

Noam Chomsky and Professor Francis Boyle, an international lawyer, both agree that "if Bush decides it is necessary to go to war in order to win in November, he will go to war" with Iran, Syria or North Korea. In my writings I have predicted the same thing. |

....there is now considerable writing that the US will authorize an Israeli attack on the Iranian nuclear reactor at Bushehr. Also, the US will now be engaging in major naval maneuvers right off the coast of North Korea in late October. So Syria, Iran, and North Korea--the last two part of the "axis of evil", along with Iraq. I stand by my conclusion, which Chomsky agrees with, that if Bush decides it is necessary to go to war in order to win in November, he will go to war. |

Pre-emptive
Nuclear War? |

To even consider a "pre-emptive nuclear first strike" indicates the flawed thinking of some of the top military and political people in the European Union (EU). |
EU
Preemptive Nuclear War |
October 10, 2004 | ||||
PARIS (Own report) - Military strategists of the European Union define the EU defense strategy initiated by Berlin and are considering a preemptive nuclear first strike. The EU military doctrine initiated by Berlin - the first one in the history of the EU - specifically envisions the possibility of conducting preventive wars. A recently presented "European Defense Paper", written with the participation of a former German minister of state, included nuclear arms in the first strike strategy of the EU. It states that British and French nuclear powers could be included "explicitly or implicitly" in this preventive military option. |

Fifty years ago on August 19, 1953, the Americans, with the help of the British, overthrew one of the few democratic governments in the Middle East. The Central Intelligence Agency carried out a coup against premier Mohammad Mossadegh of Iran and brought the Shah, who was in exile at the time, back to power. The success of this subversion emboldened the US for the coming decades to carry out similar actions in Guatemala, Chile, Cuba, Vietnam, and many other countries in the world (The Bay of Pigs fiasco in Cuba and the coup against Salvador Allende in Chile that led to the ascendance of Augusto Pinochet to power are just two examples). |

'Alone' indicts neocons, Bush - Book Review By Stanley I. Kutler | |||||
The new book "America Alone: The Neo-Conservatives and The Global Order" 369 pages, is published by Cambridge University. It is by Stephan Halper and Jonathon Clarke, well-connected foreign policy experts. The review is by Stanley Kutler, author of "The Wars on Watergate" and editor of "The Encyclopedia of the United States in the Twentieth Century". It was published in the Madison Wisconsin newspaper, "Capital Times" on Sept 12, 2004. It is a brief, and authoritative account of the capture of US foreign policy by Bush and the neocons he has appointed. Their purpose:, "under the guise of a war on terror, to reorder Mideast politics and initiate a new doctrine of pre-emptive war." |

What should Iran do? What
would you do if you were an Iranian Ayatollah? The President of the United States has branded Iran part of the "Axis of Evil." He has demanded that Iran "abandon her nuclear ambitions." He has claimed the right to wage pre-emptive war against any enemy he chooses. To add weight to these threats, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution on May 6, 2004, calling on the president "to use all appropriate means to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons." The vote was overwhelming: 376 for, three against. On July 22, the Senate passed a similar resolution with wording only slight less inflammatory. |

Presedent George Bush
has promised that if re-elected in November he will make regime change in
Iran his new target. Bush named Iran as part of the Axis of Evil along with North Korea and Iraq almost three years ago. A US government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that military action would not be overt in changing Iran, but rather that the US would work to stir revolts in the country and hope to topple the current conservative religious leadership. |

On August 6, 2001, while vacationing in Crawford, Texas, George Bush received an intelligence briefing called "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." It included revelations that al Qaeda members were conducting "surveillance of federal buildings in New York"; the World Trade Center was mentioned in the first paragraph, the prospect of terrorist "retaliat[ion] in Washington" in the second. According to the briefing, Osama bin Laden's organization was acting in ways "consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York." |
